How can you save money on your utility bills? Well, of course you can turn the lights, turn the furnace down, buy energy efficient light bulbs, etc.... But we've come up with a few different ideas you may not have thought of yet.
Check out our 4 ways to Save on Utility Bills. Who wants to pay more than they need to?!
1. Stop pre-rinsing
Most newer model dishwashers are designed specifically to remove and break down food particles from dishes, leaving them sparkling clean with no pre-rinse required, and skipping this step can save up to $70 dollars a year! (Source: FPL.com)
2. Check your windows for drafts!
According to a recent report from the The U.S. Department of Energy, 10% of energy loss in homes is due to improper window installation, faulty weather stripping, as well as the insulation around the windows. There are ways to help improve your energy loss, by doing things such as replacing your weather stripping, or adding insulating weather film, however, using products such as these is like putting a patch on a flat tire, it's only meant to be a temporary solution. If the windows in your home are older and you're experiencing extremely high energy bills, there's a good chance that it's time to replace them with new energy efficient windows.
3. Cut it out
Consider eliminating land line phone or cable service altogether. This saves us about $50 each month, or about $600 a year. You can use devices like Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, or RoKu to stream movies and television shows from Netflix and Amazon Prime which has probably save you thousands over the next few years.
4. Pay Smart
If possible, consider setting up your utility bills to be paid with a credit card that offers rewards or cash back, such as Discover.
